blessthefall "Awakening" Review/Download

Here's a link. Download the album for free and give it a listen. And see if you agree with me.http://www.mediafire.com/?3g3dnj3254nqjyv
Ok. Blessthefall. Hard rock/ metal-core band that has achieved moderate success since signing to Fearless records. The band lost their lead vocalist Craig Mabitt in 2008, when he left the band to join Escape The Fate as their lead singer. As for this new album "Awakening", I feel like the band isn't covering much new ground.
2009 saw the release of btf's album "Witness" under Fearless records. This is one of the first albums I got that featured screamed vocals on the majority of the tracks. Normally, I only can take so much of this style of music with screamed vocals, but "Witness" seemed to be an exception for me. I really enjoyed that album , but I have found myself getting burned out on it. With "Awakening", new territory is not something that is being explored. The songs seem to stick to the same formula, rotating between screamed and clean vocals. The album isn't terrible, but it gets old fast, and I found myself having to pause it and come back later to finish listening, because it was just too much for one sitting.
Complaints? The song structures are too similar to their last album, or pretty much any modern metal-core band these days unfortunately.  The songs are repetitive. The lyrics... nothing groundbreaking. The guitar breakdowns are oddly familiar.
Praises? Some of the songs have nice qualities to them. My favorites on the album are "Promised Ones", "Undefeated", and "I'm Bad News in the Best Way". Catchy at times, but still too familiar.
Overall, you can see there are alot of problems with the album, but the sound is still good, but not what it could be. I'm not a huge metal-core fan as you can probably tell, but I am in no way biased against the genre, i'm just waiting for any band that uses screamed vocals to prove me that there can be something great done, like blessthefall did with their song "To Hell and Back". See you guys soon, plenty more reviews to come such as Evanescense,Skrillex,Mayday Parade,Coldplay, and LIGHTS.
72/100
Tracks to get: "Bad News in the Best Way" "Promised Ones" "bottomfeeder" "40 days" and "Undefeated"
Peace out guys- Jon
