All Time Low is BACK. For real this time.
Let's be honest. 2011's "Dirty Work" was a letdown. It really didn't capture the band's talent at all. The lyrics were quite generic and the whole sound was different from what fans had come to know and love them for.
Forget that. It wasn't entirely their fault. They had a ton of major label pressure from Interscope. But now their back where they belong (Hopeless records) and sound better than ever! Two songs have been released so far from the upcoming album "Don't Panic (set for an October release) and both sound like some of the best songs the band has ever written. Personally,I feel like they give off a 'Green Day-ish' vibe if you will. Lyrically in "Reckless" and musically, especially in the intro in "For Baltimore".
Now for a breakdown of "Baltimore". The song starts off with Alex's vocals being quietly delivered as a guitar is strummed, in the vein of Green Day, as I mentioned. Lyrically, the song deals with a guy who is trying to tell the girl he likes how much better life in the city and in general is when their together. It's probably my favorite song they've ever written, and you can tell that some thought was really poured into writing this song. They perfectly capture the spirit of desperation at times, as he tries to pour out his heart to this girl.
Musically, the song sounds like the right step forward after "Nothing Personal", so I will just take "Dirty Work" as an awkward bump in the All Time Low road. The guitars are stronger than ever, the vocals are wonderful and not autotuned to hell like they were at times on the last album, and they sound like their all on the same page when it came to making this song (and Reckless).
What do you guys think? You can stream the song over at Alternative Press now. Leave a comment below!
